I’ve been reading and hearing lots of comments from people saying the ObamaCare ruling will fire up conservatives and libertarians to rally round Romney in the upcoming election and make Obama a one-termer. I think people who believe this are delusional.
Romney may win, though I doubt he will. I think they’re delusional to believe Romney really wants to dismantle ObamaCare.
He is the architect of RomneyCare in Massachusetts, which provided the model for ObamaCare. He says today he’d like to dismantle ObamaCare. Should we believe him when ObamaCare is basically RomneyCare writ large? Should we believe him when, in the last few years, Romney has been pro-abortion, anti-abortion, pro-gun, anti-gun, pro-personal mandate and anti-personal mandate?
I’ve heard people on the radio saying we need to elect Romney to keep Obama from appointing more Justices. Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion and was appointed by Republican and compassionate conservative George W. Bush, who also vastly expanded the power of government (No Child Left Behind, Medicare prescription drug entitlement, Patriot Act, Homeland Security, warrantless wiretaps, Troubled Asset Relief Program, etc.). The Roberts court recently upheld jail strip searches for the most minor of offenses. Pulled over for a burned-out taillight? You could be sent to jail and ordered to drop your pants, bend over and spread your legs, and Roberts and the other “conservative” justices say this would okay with them.
I don’t think it matters much who we vote for. There may be some differences at the margins but at the core Obama, Romney, Republicans, Democrats all want to exercise power. The more power they exercise, the less freedom the nation has. Voting amounts to expressing a preference for being eaten by lions or tigers.
