Heartland Institute Senior Fellow Steve Stanek says the most recent federal budget deal is meaningless! It’s a scam, a sham, a fraud! Congress hasn’t had an actual budget since 2009, and they barely have one now.
Really, what it boils down to is that Paul Ryan and Patty Murray gutted the sequester cuts- which actually put a semblance of responsibility on federal spending. They raised spending over a couple years by $63 billion, and promised to cut the deficit, over 10 years, by $85 billion, creating a net saving of $22.5 billion. Sound like a lot? Consider this: the federal government spends $10 billion A DAY. So, they’re celebrating saving 2 DAYS of spending over 10 years. Um, yeah.
Stanek is not happy about this budget deal and thinks we can do way better. He says it’s time for people to start asking questions about why the federal government is spending so much money, and where they’re spending it.
