John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #126 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Washington Policy Center, the Foundation for Government Accountability, and the Pacific Research Institute.
Before moving on to think tank and policy related topics, Donny and John talk about the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Chicago snow storm and the stock market.
Policybot Featured Work of the Week
This week, the featured work comes from the Washington Policy Center. The Legislative Memo, titled “SB 6540, to request a Medicaid waiver to stabilize and improve the state Medicaid program,” gives insight into a proposed Medicaid waiver that could improve the state’s Medicaid system.
More Think Tank Works
Similar to the reform proposed in the Featured work above, an article authored by Josh Archambault from the Foundation for Government Accountability in Forbes covers the success of welfare reform in Maine. The article, titled “New Report Proves Maine’s Welfare Reforms Are Working,” shows how work requirements for welfare has helped those it effected.
Next, Donny and John talk about an article produced by the Pacific Research Institute titled “Basic Income Comes to Stockton.” Stockton, California is starting to experiment with the idea of Universal Basic Income – an alternative to welfare that is subject to much debate across and within political parties.
Donny references a debate hosted by the Adam Smith Society which can be found here.
Last, Donny asks John about his opinion on a proposed bill in New York that would force laundry detergent companies to make their laundry pods look less appetizing.
