John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #132 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Pacific Research Institute, The Heartland Institute, and the Independence Institute.
Better Know A Think Tank
Today, Donny and John are joined by Michelle Minton, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Michelle talks about CEI, her report on legalizing sports betting, Human Achievement Hour, and more.
Policybot Featured Work of the Week
This week’s Policybot featured work comes from the Pacific Research Institute. The report, titled “Costly Subsidies for the Rich,” examines electric car subsidies and their effects. Among other findings, the author shows how these subsidies mainly benefit higher-income-earners.
More Think Tank Works
Next, Donny and John talk about a new movement to introduce health insurance mandates at a state level. Several states have legislation pending that would reintroduce a penalty on not having insurance, a tax that was removed at a federal level by the recent tax reform package.
Last, Donny and John talk about an article authored by Jon Caldara, president of the Independence Institute, titled “No it’s not you, Peter Pan. It’s the law that prevents you from growing up.”
