Heartland’s Donald Kendal, and Justin Haskins are joined by Isaac Orr in episode #191 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s episode features work from Environmental Progress, The Heartland Institute, the Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation.
In the first segment, Donald gives his initial reactions to HBO’s new miniseries, Chernobyl. As Donald describes, the show is presents the events of Chernobyl in an absolutely horrifying manner. The series will surely evoke fear of this important energy source. To counter the inevitable fear that will result from the show, Donald talks about several articles authored by Michael Shellenberger, president of Environmental Progress. Shellenberger’s articles reveal the truth about the inherent safety of nuclear power.

The Reason They Fictionalize Nuclear Disasters Like Chernobyl Is Because They Kill So Few People

In the next segment, they talk about the newly proposed Loan Shark Prevention Act that would set a 15% cap on interest in the United States. In an effort to prevent the exploitation of working people, the bill’s sponsors Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Bernie Sanders are actually cutting off an important option for people trying deal with unexpected expenses.

The trio then turn their attention to the Second Amendment using a Heritage Foundation article titled “To Sen. Cory Booker, Gun Ownership Is a Privilege and Not a Right,” as a leaping off point. Justin gives his two cents on what Booker’s stance on the Second Amendment means for our rights and the state of our political discourse.
In the last part of the episode, Justin and Donald explain what they think is the main theme of HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones. Did the controversial events of the latest episode reveal a very libertarian message?
