In the Tom Cruise-starring science-fiction-future-flick “Minority Report”: “A special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes.” These were called “Pre-Crimes.” Objection, Your Honor: Assuming facts not yet in evidence.

With all the attending awfulness you expect. The laxness, the arrogance – the terrible performance. (See: ObamaCare, the Post Office, “green energy,” your Department of Motor Vehicles,….) And the willful denial of the fact that innumerable past failures – portend more of the exact same, should we be foolish enough to yet again try the exact same.
We’ve written extensively about the bipartisan, awful, awfully mis-named Innovation and PATENT Acts. Bills which would undermine the ability of patent holders to protect their property from thieves. By making it exponentially more difficult for them to do the one thing they can to stop the thieves – sue them.
Like with all huge new government power grabs, there are a few very predictable post-grab outcomes. Let’s look at a few through the prisms of relatively new grab Net Neutrality – and ObamaCare, a more vintage grab thus doing even more predicted damage.
To wit: Unless I am mistaken, the Platform has called for the abolition of the Department of Education every cycle since the abomination’s 1979 creation by President Jimmy Carter (as a payoff to teachers unions for helping get him elected). Yet there the DoE still stands – bigger and worse than ever. A monument to terrible government policy and overreach – and GOP fecklessness. Heck, the GOP has contributed to its growth almost as much as have the Democrats.
The Constitution is an extraordinary document. Life for most humans for most of human history has been poor, nasty, brutish and short. The Constitution acknowledged this past (and present) – and transformed our future.
The U.S. economy continues its Barack Obama Administration-long hobbled limp. President Obama will be our nations first tonever, ever have even one year of 3% or higher Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.
How about that FBI no-indictment announcement yesterday? Makes perfect sense to you, I bet. Ok – I don’t bet that. At all. What does make sense to us Real Worlders – is seeing yet another Elite get yet another Get-Out-of-Reality-Free card. It is all growing quite tiresome. We Real Worlders are tired of the Elites’ limitless condescension – combined with incessant wrong-ness. We’re tired of Elites who are clearly in possession of far less common sense (but many, many more degrees) – mandating ever more portions of our lives.
When government “helps” run something – that something is terrible. The bigger a hand government has in running it – the more terrible it is. If it is exclusively government-run – the terrible-ness is ingrained and inherent. And the longer government runs the show – the worse the terrible-ness becomes.
There are some people who simply, bizarrely do not like intellectual property. Some are full-blown Leftists – who do not like private property at all. (But don’t you dare try to take for the Collective the smart phone on which they’re Tweeting their disdain for private property.) Others are to varying degrees small “L” libertarian. Who somehow bizarrely delineate between physical property (which they’ll protect) and intellectual property (which they won’t). Who would have arrested a thief leaving Tower Records with an armful of CDs – but who is even as I type downloading-without-paying that exact same music.
The American media cabal is…ridiculous. They are the Borg of politics – many entities, but of but one Leftist mind. Led around by their noses by whatever hack government-growing politician is before them at that moment. Remember this? Obama Administration Admits They Lied About Iran Deal, ‘Ventriloquized’ The Media
This is huge news – but it is hardly surprising. Google – President Barack Obama’s biggest crony in a sea full of armadas full of legions of Obama cronies – has been cozying up to the woman Obama just endorsed to succeed him: Hillary Clinton. And by “cozying up” – we mean warping their search results to hide Clinton’s decades of scandals and scandalous behavior. Last year, Wired magazine warned us about the election-manipulating power of Google…
Silicon Valley entrepreneur Peter Thiel is a pretty smart guy. As partial evidence, I give you his self-made net worth of $2.7 billion. He co-founded online payment mega-company PayPal – which was in 2002 sold to eBay for $1.5 billion. Anyone who saw the very good flick “The Social Network” knows Thiel was one of the first outside investors in Facebook. He still owns a chunk, and is on their Board. He invested in LinkedIn. He’s…done well.
Behold “Mother May I?” government. Where the private sector can’t do a thing, make a move, invent or innovate – until after the incompetent, pathetically slow government finally gets around to granting permission to do so. If we’re lucky – more likely than not, they’ll say Nay.
Why have prices fallen so low? Because government subsidies created a glut – and the market is flooded. This government money warps and distorts the marketplace – as otherwise productively-directed time and effort is instead spent chasing the government coin. Producers produce not what the marketplace needs – but for what the government pays.
Most government schools don’t teach – or don’t teach properly – one of the greatest documents in human history: our Constitution. Which produced the most prosperous, egalitarian nation ever. But which government schools by and large impugn as racist and fatally flawed – and thus not worthy of proper consideration.
We are in the midst of a presidential race that is fundamentally changing how many view – and thought they knew – politics. Donald Trump especially is radically altering that map. What many thought were permanent lines – turned out to be drawn on an Etch-a-Sketch. That the presumptive Republican nominee has spent the last year shaking into oblivion.
Venezuela is an official Socialist Utopia disaster area. (It would be nice if Team Bernie Sanders and his Democrat cohorts were paying attention – but who are we kidding.)
The United States State Department issued a travel warning back on September 18 (which still appears to be in place). The news, meanwhile, is chock full of horror stories for the people of Venezuela – the victims of full government’s inexorable conclusion.
