The U.S. was the world’s number one economy prior to World War II, but it took off bigtime after the war and there has not been a day of my long life in which we were not number one—until now.

It seems fitting that after such a momentous political evening, the Washington, D.C. area woke early this morning to the thundercrack of a summer storm, with a furious arrival and just as quickly faded and gone. The crushing and unexpected defeat of Eric Cantor – the first defeat of a sitting House Majority leader since 1899, which also happens to be the creation of the position – is sending ripples through a Republican Party which will have ramifications for this cycle and beyond.
The prevailing Beltway view is that the GOP has corralled the Tea Party, domesticated it without giving it a real seat at the table. But I still think they misunderstand who’s locked in with whom.
Matt Kibbe: The individual has to protect their liberty by taking responsibility and working to stand up to the government. “The government goes to those who show up,” he said. “If we don’t show up, the power goes to those who do, who may corrupt the power. We have to show up.”
Pundits are expected to make predictions for the year ahead and far be it for me to avoid what, generally speaking, depends on who is making them. Major trends are already in place and easy to predict as they proceed, but it is always unknown events that upend predictions. Mother Nature and perpetrators of evil can always be counted upon to provide them.
These anti-growth policies all explain why President Obama has suffered the worst recovery from a recession of any president since the Great Depression, 75 years ago! What is needed to restore booming American economic growth and prosperity is to reverse all of these policies with pro-growth policies.
The goals of limited government, fiscal responsibility, traditional values, and strong defense have been an ever-present litany of bullet points from Republican politicians – but talking about limited government and actually delivering on it are two very different things.
