The Council for American Private Eduation (CAPE), released this great, albeit dry, video about the benefits of private school. The thesis revolves around one line: “children only get one education, it should focus on what really counts.”
Standards, adequately yearly progress, and standardized testing have taken over a well-rounded education and sacrificed the whole for just a few parts. Now “what really counts” is a fairly vague term, but therein lies the whole point of the school choice movement. The market, as it always does, provides a service where one is demanded. A parent wishing to focus on an arts education can do that without the burdensome government assessing math and reading every few months.
The video also makes one great point that is often forgotten by those fighting for school choice: charter schools are a compromise. Charter schools are subject to nearly all of the same pitfalls as every other public school but are held up to represent the entire school choice movement. We won’t see the true benefits of private education until we abolish the failing universal socialistic education system.
