Way back in 1993 (that’s 24 years ago!), Stu Wesbury and I wrote what I thought at the time was the best critique of “Hillarycare” and clearest description of the best alternative plan available anywhere.
Titled “A Common-Sense Plan to Increase Access to Quality Health Care While Lowering Health Care Spending,” it came on the heels of the release of Why We Spend Too Much on Health Care, which more than a few people credit with aiding in the defeat of Hillarycare.
Patrick Rooney and an army of lobbyists for Golden Rule Insurance used this short report to campaign against Hillarycare. It got a lot of attention at the time.
Well, I lost that publication… links on our website to it got broken and corrupted… and just today, Diane Bast was able to find a PDF and repost it. I just re-read it, and after all these years, I marvel at how spot-on it still is. And how succinct. Man, I wish I could still write like that!
