John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #108 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Manhattan Institute, the Tax Foundation, the American Action Network, and the Center of the American Experiment.
Better Know a Think Tank / Policybot Featured Work of the Week
In this week’s Better Know a Think Tank segment, John and Donny are joined by Paul Howard, Senior Fellow and Director of Health Care Policy at the Manhattan Institute. Paul joins the show to tell us a bit about his New York based organization and his recently produced Issue Brief titled “How Congress Should Clarify and Expand the ACA’s State Innovation Waivers.” Paul explains what states can do to improve their health care system and what Congress should do to clear the way for these state-based reforms.
Other Think Tank Works
Next, Donny and John talk about the recently proposed “big six” tax reform plan. The Tax Foundation released “Details of the ‘Big Six’ Tax Framework” outlining the major components of the plan. The framework is being praised by free-market and limited-government advocates everywhere. John and Donny talk about the reactions and discuss how high you should allow your hopes to rise.
Donny and John then talk about a report recently released by the Center of the American Experiment titled “No Four-Year Degree Required.” The report shows that taking a job that does not require a four-year degree could net you more money over your lifetime.
In the last bit, Donny gets John’s opinion on a potential California bill that would ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles.
