John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #118 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from The Global Warming Policy Foundation, The Institute for Policy Innovation, and the Beacon Center.
Policybot Featured Work of the Week
This week’s featured work is a report by the Global Warming Policy Foundation titled “The Anti-Development Bank: The World Bank’s Regressive Energy Policies.” The author of the report explains how the World Bank strayed from their original goal of poverty reduction and adopted a policy of promoting renewable energy. Since cheap, reliable energy is the cornerstone of economic development, this change of policy has been made at the expense of those the bank attempts to help.
Other Think Tank Works
Next, Donny and John talk about an article authored by Merrill Matthews, a resident scholar with the Institute for Policy Innovation, titled “End the Individual Mandate.” The article gives a brief background of the unpopular Obamacare regulation and how it is virtually eliminated in the Senate version of the tax reform bill.
They then talk about President Trump’s decision to change the monument designations of multiple national parks. John explains the reality of this story, showing that it is not as dire as opponents to the move make it out to be.
The last article they talk about is from the Beacon Center. The article, titled “Beacon Center and IJ File Lawsuit to Legalize Music in Nashville Home,” tells of how multiple residents’ home businesses were shut down by the Nashville codes department.
