John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #120 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Tax Foundation, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, and the Fraser Institute.
John and Donny start off the podcast talking about their reactions to the newly released Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
They also talk about the success of the tax reform bill. Using a press release from the Tax Foundation, Donny asks John about what he thinks are the highlights and lowlights of the bill.
Policybot Featured Work of the Week
This week’s featured work is a report from the Foundation for Excellence in Education titled “Putting Career and Technical Education to Work for Students.” This report gives a detailed walk-through for policymakers to create/reform career and technical education programs in the state. The skills gap in the economy continues to be a problem in the county; policymakers following this playbook can solve that problem.
Other Think Tank Works
The Fraser Institute released their latest report, titled “Economic Freedom of North America 2017.” This report uses six factors to determine the level of economic freedom in each of the 50 states as well as the provinces of Canada and the states of Mexico. Donny and John talk about the findings of the report.
Last, Donny asks John about his thoughts on a possible Meat Tax as a solution to curb carbon emissions.
