Donny Kendal and John Nothdurft bring you episode #169 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s episode features work from the Goldwater Institute, and the Foundation for Economic Education.
Donny and John start of the show with a few short segments. First Donny gives an update on the riots in France. Mirroring the event that led to the French riots, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed a $0.30 gas tax increase of his own. Sparking a larger conversation about taxing Millennials, John and Donny also talk about a proposed California tax on text messaging.

In the first real segment of the show, Donny and John talk about a report from the Goldwater Institute titled “Studied to Death: FDA Overcaution Brings Deadly Consequences.” The report tells of how the FDA approval process for new drugs is broken. In an effort to maximize safety in the process, the encumbering bureaucracy has led to an “invisible graveyard” filled with people who could have been helped.
In the final segment, Donny and John talk about an article from the Foundation for Economic Education titled “Why Most Academics Tilt Left.” John and Donny reflect on their experiences in this regard and explain why it is detrimental to conservative students and liberal ones.
