National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12th.
My mother was a nurse, and the mother of my wife, Kathy, was also a nurse. From the very beginnings of our lives nurses were special people to us. We have many friends who are nurses, and for hosts of reasons we believe that it is a profession whose practitioners deserve profound respect and great affection.
One of Kathy’s closest friends is a nurse in Baltimore, Maryland, and her son is a very gifted artist. During Nurses Week this year he gave his mother a drawing showing him as a young boy playing with the most favored of his heroic action figures.
